Sometimes, the Most Spiritual Thing You Can Do Is Have Fun

“I think a genuinely happy human is someone who is in tune with themselves. They’re childlike. They have this raw state of being.”
Most of the time, we have this very cliché idea of what spirituality is and what it should look like. Many might imagine someone always grounded, always at peace, always somehow above the messiness of being human.
We tend to associate spirituality with stillness, discipline, solitude, and a certain seriousness, as if the closer you get to your spiritual self, the quieter and more composed you’re supposed to become.
Then one day, I came across this saying:
“Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is have fun.”
(And now I have it as my Home Screen, as a constant reminder to myself.)
I believe fun and joy are some of the most beautiful things we humans get to experience in this life, and maybe that’s why their frequency feels so high.
A happy, joyful, content human is radiant, attractive, contagious. They carry something so powerful within them, sometimes without even realizing the power of what they have.
I think a genuinely happy human is someone who is in tune with themselves. They’re childlike. They have this raw state of being.
They listen to their soul and act on what satisfies it. They’re connected to themselves in a way that doesn’t need to be explained.
I think we’ve become so obsessed with optimizing our lives and becoming “better” humans that we’ve forgotten how to be very alive.
We turned rest into recovery.
Hobbies into side hustles.
Travel into content.
Reading into self-improvement.
Everything became a means to an end.
We even turned spirituality into another project; something we need to be disciplined about.
Something that requires us to become endlessly self-aware, stick to our morning routines, regulate our nervous systems, heal our inner child, and constantly work on ourselves.
And while all of this is beautiful and has its place. But… maybe your soul doesn’t always want another lesson.
Maybe it just wants to have a really good time?
Maybe it wants to dance.
Maybe it wants to get dressed up for absolutely no reason.
Maybe it wants to travel somewhere you’ve never been.
Or maybe it wants to fall in love with a song.
Or lie in the sun and feel completely useless for an afternoon.
Maybe it just wants to be really, genuinely, stupidly alive.
And perhaps the most radical thing you can do is listen.
Not because every desire is sacred.
But because a life completely disconnected from desire eventually becomes a life disconnected from the self.
